peace. love. joy.
well, it's what my Christmas cards say. so, it must be true. right? it is that time of the year. but, i've gotta tell ya'...ain't been feelin' the peace, love or joy 'round here lately.
in fact, i had to open up a can of "you-know-what," this mornin'. my sister and i call it, "goin' tootie on ya'!" now, before my dad reads this and says, "hey! that's me. i'm tootie," understand that we are referring to a tootie of old.
tootie of old comes from a long line of hot heads. when tootie of old would get angry, you could smell it oozin' from his rather large pores. like that image? you're welcome. yep! my dad used to have one heckuva' temper. but, God fixed him. or, maybe it was just when we were all little and annoyin'. or maybe it was that bunion surgery. you're welcome.
anywho. i "went tootie on 'em" this mornin'. so, now i've just been prayin' all day for forgiveness, guidance and patience. and peace. and love. and joy. and a pint of peppermint ice cream. and, to tell the truth, i'd settle for a pair of ear plugs and a box of crunch-n-munch. what? don't judge. it's Christmas.
do these images remind you of peace, love and joy? i used the bottom one. can't you just feel the sarcasm?

happy thursday!

i'm sure that, unless you've been livin' under some palm tree on the west coast of Mexico, you've heard of this group. or, maybe i'm bein' facetious. maybe...you've never heard of 'em. and, i'm introducin' you to this musical marvel for the very first time.
whatever. either way, i love 'em. they make me smile. i love 'em. love. them. love them! what? just sayin'.
yes, they're from indiana. but, who cares. they rock, in my book. and, i must confess...i bought their new cd, and, i'm glad! there, i said it.

don'tcha wanna go down?
my. all. time. favorite. singer. alison krauss.
when i listen to her singin', it feels like home. i don't know. it feels like comin' home, puttin' on my jommies. (not jammies) cuddlin' with my family, in front of the fire while watchin' project runway. and, the kids have temporary laryngitis. what? it's my home. i said temporary. and we're cuddlin' aren't we? don't judge.
anywho.
i had some of her songs playin' while i was makin' taco soup. mmmmmm...taco soup! anyway, wes said, "turn it up momma!" so, i did. i tell you what, that boy knows the good stuff when he hears it.

bff forever?
here's a little fun fact 'bout me...i think when i clean. now, i know if you're reading this you probably know how much i clean. therefor, you can get an idea of how much i think. one would assume that with all this thinkin' goin' on, i would have won some nobel prize by now. but, alas, most of my thoughts are so random that nothin' much comes of them. sad. i know.
but, every once in awhile, a thought crosses my mind, and i just have to drop the mop and run to my computer. (most of my thoughts are fleeting.) sad. i know.
here it is...i was thinkin' about friends. not just any friends, bff's. maddie is at that bff age. only, she's not a bff kinda girl. she's really more of a flavor of the month. you know, likes to keep her options open. nobody gonna slow her down. (oh, no. she's got to keep on movin'.) not me, i've always been a bff kinda girl. i may have had a couple at a time, but i'm too ADD to keep track of too many people. i'm an out of sight, out of mind kinda friend. i may love you, i just can't remember to call you and tell you. sad. i know.
so, what is a bff? what qualifies someone to be your bff? was there this magical moment when you thought, "i think she's my bff. yes, i believe she is." why do we need a bff? why aren't ff's okay? are you required to log a certain amount of hours a year with this person, in order for them to maintain a bff status? yes, it's a busy place, my brain.
well, you know what's comin' next, my opinion. (feel free to resume to your regularly scheduled, time wastin', web surfin' now.) and, actually, it's not my opinion, it's my experience.
my experience tells me this, there is no concrete definition of bff. now, wikipedia begs to differ with me, but whatever wikipedia. you're lame. and, i'm sure i shouldn't be allowin' my daughter to use you as her reference source for learned knowledge.
my best friend is a "from birth" bff. one of those people that when you think back, you can't remember a time when they weren't there. you know, this kinda friend...the one that gave you her butter cookies in sunday school, 'cause she knew how much you liked wearin' them as rings, and then eatin' them a little at a time. the one that comforted you at g.a. camp, when you missed your mom. the one that made the two hour trip, for months, to the hospital when you were ten, just to sit with you in a cold room and pass the time playin' rummy, and hold your black and blue hand when they came to draw more blood. the one that gave you their new kids tape, when yours was eatin' by your boom box. the one that helped you figure out how to make your shoestrings on your new eastlands do that curly thing, and get that tight-roll as tight as could be for your first school dance.
the one that, for a while, was ripped out of your life, for reasons too complicated to comprehend at the time. the one that made the effort to stay in your life, even when you were going in two different directions. the one that was there when your children were born. the one that won't hesitate to set you straight, or let you vent. the one that nothing you do or say surprises them. the kind of friend sent straight from God.
my bff lives far away from me, now. but, i got to see her this past weekend. and, she introduced me to someone as her bff forever. i laughed and made fun of her, but, she was right. she's my best friend forever, forever.

her mom snapped these as we were leavin'. she took two, because heather feather didn't like that her hair wasn't showin' in the first. so, i used my hand, and became her human bumpit'. (my talents know no bounds. :P)
oh, and, do those glasses make my face look small? geez.

excuse me, can i get a little motivation with that sweet tea?
i love visitin' home. i hate packin'. seriously. hate. and, i tell my punks to never say that word. hate, not punks. punks is my new word. anywho. what was i sayin'? oh, yes, i hate packin'. so, this morning, when i was in-line at mickey d's, i asked the girl if i could, you guessed it, get a little motivation with my sweet tea. i love their sweet tea. seriously. love. it reminds me of home. ahhhh...home.
anywho. motivation. i needed some. so, since the girl at mickey d's just stared blankly back at me, i did what any ghetto-bootied girl would do, i turned to beyonce. and when i searched youtube, i found this video. i love this girls' voice, and she just looks like a gal i would really get along with. and, sadly, those girls are few and far between.
so, click if you have a moment. or, even if you're like me and you don't really have a moment, but you are very easily distracted. have a blessed weekend! ooooh, gap is havin' a one day online only sale.

not in a really weird way. you know, in an austin powers kinda way. :)
you'd think he was my kid, what with all the posts 'bout him. no, he's just not old enough to tell me to get my camera out of his face, yet.

that seventies girl
have you ever thought, maybe you would have liked to have been born in another era? like, i, for instance, really enjoy reading about the early to mid-nineteen hundreds. like the twenties to the late forties. i would have been a southern charmer, and my daddy would have sent me to an all girls school in savannah. and i would have married old southern money. but, alas, i was not. and perhaps, that is a good thing. perhaps God knew i was going to be really high-maintenance. and that i lack a bit of a sense of direction. and that i would have more than likely wasted my life, lost and wonderin' the uninhabited countryside, stopping to ask for directions at every little farm house and plantation along the way. all the while complaining of how hot it was in the summer, and how cold it was in the winter. and, therefor, i say thank you God for my mini-van with built-in GPS system, dual a/c controls and heated leather seats.
well. anywho.
my point, assumin' i actually have one, is that my daughter believes she was born in the seventies. and who am i to bust her bubble? so, here is a throw-back pic for ya, maddie. can ya dig it, foxy lady? peace-out!

overkill
all my life, i've been the "overkill" girl. when i do somethin', i do it. and to heck with the consequences. well, that's not true. i was also the "goody-goody" girl. see how God works things out?
for instance, wonder where wes got his dramaticnessess (whatever) from? "oh, mommy! (in a very thick syrupy voice) my head is killin' me! killin' me!"
so, i'm prayin' that once i get a grip on my mouse, i'll stop goin' overboard in photoshop. but, i do love photoshop. i love it like a fat kid loves cake. like i love scottie. like i love pine-sol lemon flavor, i mean scent. well, almost. i mean, lets not overkill.
here's a few of my plays this mornin'. if you have an account, leave me a little feedback. if you don't...get one, and leave me some feedback. please. look at that! i said please.

the definition of crazy...
not surprisingly, there are many.
cra·zy (krz)
adj. cra·zi·er, cra·zi·est
1. Affected with madness; insane.
2. Informal Departing from proportion or moderation, especially:
a. Possessed by enthusiasm or excitement: The crowd at the game went crazy.
b. Immoderately fond; infatuated: was crazy about boys.
c. Intensely involved or preoccupied: is crazy about cars and racing.
d. Foolish or impractical; senseless: a crazy scheme for making quick money
another definition of crazy, though not as formal, might be, let's say...my youngest child, wes. now, in order to fully comprehend the wes definition of crazy, one need only hear one side of the story. a mother's side.
me: wes, please stop bitting the chair. what? oh, okay then, please stop lickin' the chair.
me: wes! get that out of your mouth! (brief pause) it doesn't go in your nose either. get it out! no, you can't put it in your ear! what? well, i guess if the hankerin' is that strong...then your belly button is the safest option.
me: wes, why are you putting your foot on my phone? you're playin' what game? oh, you're playin' tick-tack-toe. i see.
me: what baby? mommy couldn't hear you. oh, yes. you're right. mommy shouldn't touch her poopy. no, you shouldn't touch your poopy either. no, you shouldn't. no! you shouldn't!
me: that was nice of the lady to give you a sucker after your haircut. what flavor is it? i mean, what does it taste like? chicken? it tastes like chicken? are you sure? yes, chicken is good for you. uhhh, nice try. just because you say it tastes like chicken, doesn't make it chicken, and i am not gonna make you eat all the chicken suckers.
oh, i could go on, and on, and on. but, you get the picture...

ebony and ivory
he is 6'4".
i am 5'3".
he is left brained.
i am right brained.
he has a reminder on his phone for everything.
i have adult ADD.
he is controlling.
i am not to be controlled.
he gags at the sight of poultry.
i could be a chicketarian.
he sings, but you would never guess the song.
i was a voice major.
he snorts when he laughs.
i call him out on it.
he is a handy man.
i have lots of ideas.
he can resolve any fight.
i am "little ms. can't be wrong."
he adores his children, thinks i hung the moon, and loves his Lord.
i... well, whatta ya' know? i do too! :0
he, is my other half. he's the other half of my heart (i'm pretty hard core). he's the other half of my mind (recall the right brain comment). he's the other half of my spirit (gag, i know. but he is the head of our home)
he pushes me. he can make sense of my thoughts, when i can't get them out of my mouth. he reminds me what i was getting ready to do, when i can't remember (sad, but true). he talks me down off my proverbial ledges. he tells me i can.
as i was growing up, my mom would tell me about the dream she had, when i was a baby. she said she dreamt that the man i married was tall and dark. (i don't think she ever mentioned handsome:)) anywho.
it's just proof to me that he's everything i (and my mom) ever dreamed of. and more.

meet me at home
there i sat, dressed in black from my head to my toes. i was surrounded by a group of people that, when i was growin' up, didn't exist. well, some of them didn't exist yet, and others just didn't exist to me. about everyone had their heads lowered, as if someone had told us to do so. everyone, that is, except wes. he thought the music playing made for great dancin'. oh, and this was the music playing. as the song filled my ears and the sight of this rather large family sitting side-by-side, filled my eyes, love filled my heart. scottie was sitting in the row in front of me, with his dad and siblings. the next two rows held twelve grandchildren and those of us that were blessed to marry into this family.
i've been to several funerals, and have heard this, over and over, "there in a much better place now." but, i don't know. i always thought people that said that, just didn't know what else to say. and you can kinda tell when someone is just mouthing those words. you know? and, you think do they really mean what they say? are they going to that better place when their time comes? do they know where that place is? what it looks like? who else will be there? do they know how to get there? and do they know what makes it better?
well, i do. and, i'm not saying that because i'm some sorta philosophical genius. i just know what i know. i know Jesus. and, i know that my mother-in-law knows Jesus. i know that He sits at the right hand of my God. and, i know that she is where i long to be and will be one day. i know that if elvis is there, she's gotten his autograph. i know that she has already told my papaw how much i miss him and that i'm raisin' three of his great-grandchildren with her son. i know that it smells like pine-sol there. what? it's heaven isn't it? and, i know that the only way to get there is through our savior, Jesus Christ.
so, next time you start to mumble those words to a friend or a family member that has just lost someone close, say it like you mean it! and know that you mean it!
And, Nannie, know that we love you, and we'll meet you at home!
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:1-3

well, i do. and, i'm not saying that because i'm some sorta philosophical genius. i just know what i know. i know Jesus. and, i know that my mother-in-law knows Jesus. i know that He sits at the right hand of my God. and, i know that she is where i long to be and will be one day. i know that if elvis is there, she's gotten his autograph. i know that she has already told my papaw how much i miss him and that i'm raisin' three of his great-grandchildren with her son. i know that it smells like pine-sol there. what? it's heaven isn't it? and, i know that the only way to get there is through our savior, Jesus Christ.
so, next time you start to mumble those words to a friend or a family member that has just lost someone close, say it like you mean it! and know that you mean it!
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

seriously...
these two videos play over and over again in my house. i know...these two?? together?
yes, these two. one makes me think of my roots, and the other makes me think of...well, my roots.
no one in my house can hear the first one without smilin'. and, for some reason, no one in my house can hear the second one without cryin'. hallelujah!

"not my child" (Tuesday/Wes Edition)
instead of tellin' on myself this
my little, precious, baby boy did not do the following...
•grab the steak knife at the restaurant, whereby causing his mother to react and grab it out of his hands. he did not clinch said knife tighter, causing his mother's hand to slide up the knife. and, consequently, his mother did not have to contemplate stitches.
•go four consecutive days potty training, with no accidents, only to meet his mother at the top of the stairs, with two fists full of poopy. he did not say, "mommy, my poopy!" he is way too into this potty stuff to do such an silly, silly thing.
•eat four hot dogs at the grill-out on friday. he's two! what two-year-old can down four hot dogs? better question: what parents would let him? geez.
and, lastly, it is not my child starring in this mini-storyboard...
hmmm...
cool.
uhhh...
where's this lil' dude goin'?
ok. puttin' a stop to this, before he makes a play for my fla-vor-ice.
yuck. what? what? you think i ate him, don'tcha? don'tcha?
well, maybe i did. and, maybe i didn't.

please don't let there be an awkward silence.
hi! how's it goin'? (insert crickets chirping here)
Okay, I'm just gonna make this easier for all involved, and not even acknowledge the fact that I have not blogged in a short lifetime. Everybody okay with that? I really think it's for the best. Ok? And since I amdictator gentle ruler of comer5 world, what i say...goes. Love, Love.
Now, it's not that I haven't had dozens of passing thoughts and observations, tumblin' 'round in this here head, that I wanted to preserve. It's just that it's summertime, and the livin' is easy. See, when you call the frozen tundra your home, and May rolls around, it makes you want to pitch-a-tint in the backyard and not come in 'til the first frost. (Or until you are nearly pelted to death by softball-sized hail.)
I have missed postin' for Father's Day, Will's b-day, Maddie's b-day, and every fun, cottin-pickin' thing we've done all summer long. Oh, well. I'll just have to do a massive end of the season pic post. Wait. What am I so worried about? It's not like I blog for anyone other than my family, and who really cares what they think? :)
So, I'm gonna keep this short. I just wanted to post somethin', quick and painless. You know. To get me back in the saddle. (so to speak). Here is a pic that I took durin' a meeting for church. We are currently involved in planting a church here in the Fishers area, and this was takin' during a meeting we were having. And, while i was reading Chapter 4 because of the church reference, when I was uploading pics earlier, I was really stuck on verse 1 &2.

Am I living a life worthy of the calling I have received? Hmmm. I don't even know where to start with this one.
So, I guess that brings me to verse 2. Am I really, "completely humble and gentle; patient, bearing with one another in love?" Uhhh, if by gentle you mean, carrying a wooden spoon around in my purse, then, "Yes, I am." Feel free to call the law on me for that one. I dare ya'. (just let me know beforehand, so I can have a little bag packed.:0)
Summer. it's really a love/hate relationship for me and summer. Love the freedom/ hate that there is no schedule. Love the weather/ hate the mosquitos. Love my kids bein' home/ hate that it can, at times, make me want to poke my eyes out with one of the mechanical pencils I've already purchased for back 2 school. what? you never know when the school might call, and need them back a.s.a.p. :) So, that's what this post is for. It is to make me re-group. Open my eyes, and realize that there will only be so many summers with my kids.
There will only be so many...
concerts in the park, jaunts to the pool, play groups with friends, weeks at Camp Indy, parties to slumber, family bike-rides, grill-outs on Saturday nights, screams on roller coasters, cruises on the boat, runs through the sprinkler, jumps on the trampoline, trips to the State Fair, buckets of homemade ice cream, nights at the baseball field, and so-on. There. will. only. be. so. many. And, that, my friends, is humbling.
So, here's to bearing with one another in love. Happy Summer!

p.s. Did you notice the occasional capital letter? Well, what do you know? You can teach an old dog new tricks.

this one's dedicated to the one i he loves
so, i may have mentioned this before, but, i may have A.D.D tendencies. i may have them so bad, that my next post was goin' to be titled: jobs beth couldn't hold-down if her life depended on it. no lie. seriously, no lie.
yesterday, scottie came home and played a song from bob and tom. not that he listens to that show. (shakin' my head in disapproval.) however, boy, did this one hit the nail on the head. i actually was laughin' so hard i couldn't breathe. no lie. seriously, no lie.
what's that they say? the truth shall set you free? well, we'll see.
scottie dedicated this one to me, and i'm sendin' it out to all my A.D.D. homies. keep on, keepin' on. peace out.
disclaimer 1:
the views expressed by bob and tom, are not those of the comer 5,blah, blah, blah.
disclaimer 2:
i am acknowledging, that my A.D.D. tendencies, are probably mild, compared to some who battle this disease. i am also acknowledging that i would probably benefit from medication. however, i have chosen to beat this thing myself. well, i guess scottie is really the one i have chosen to beat this thing. :)

they got money, but they don't got cash
I AM...so ready for a vacation.
I WANT...a light meter built in my brain. (you know. for my camera.)
I HAVE...to pee really bad. what? it's my blog.:0
I KEEP...havin' to remind myself what it is i am supposed to be doin'. "you're bloggin' a post. you're bloggin' a post. oh, did i get those clothes out of the dryer? you're bloggin' a post. you're bloggin' a post."
I WISH I COULD...speak spanish.
I HATE...humidity. good thing i don't live in henderson anymore, huh?
I FEAR...this hasn't changed. the answer is still, possum. (eeek!)
I HEAR...the pressure washer outside (music to my ears.) the dryer runnin'. (yes, i was typin' the truth in the "i have" part. tisk. tisk.) and, the dixie chicks. "long time gone" , to be exact.
I DON'T THINK...things through sometimes. okay, a lot of times. whatever.
I REGRET...bein' anorexic in high school. eek gads. thanks, daddy, for the tough love. he loved me enough, to tell me the truth. "she'll eat if we shove it down her throat!":)
I LOVE...fiji. well, i do. even though, we are but strangers. one day, fiji. one day. we shall be together.

what?????
i don't know these people. and, i consider myself, pretty creative. at times. this, however, made me feel about as creative as my daddy. (just kiddin', daddy.) i sat and starred at the screen with complete amazement, happiness, and confusion. (i know...big surprise.) enjoy. but, unless you know cory and/or rachel, i don't think this means you're invited to the wedding. or does it? hmmmm. they might have opened up a big ol' can of worms.

dollar will
that's his nickname. you know. 'cause he's money. (get with it people)
so, headed home tonight from prayer walkin'. what? seriously. i'm just sayin'. don't blame me for your complex right now. ahem. movin' along.
we were in the car. i asked maddie if she wanted to make a few quick bucks, and be my model again. there was another gorgeous sunset. and, i'm tryin' to work on my backlighting. however, she said no. gezz. guess two bucks just doesn't go quit as far these days. whatever.
well, i'm glad she said no. 'cause all i had to offer will, was a snow cone and a chance to take his skateboard to the railroad tracks. dude, that's some serious grindin'. (get with it people). no, he doesn't talk like that, nor does he ever skateboard anymore, but it worked. (you'll realize this, when you see the board-it's three years old. and yes, that is a scotty dog on the bottom. he's hard core, i tell ya.)
well, here are his 7 year old pics. you are our sunshine, kid. love you, willie billie.
(guess i'll have to do wes' 2 year pics this week. be near, sweet Jesus.)
