We try to have a "state of the union" meeting on a regular basis to discuss how we're doing as a family and if bedtimes, rules, rewards are doing what they are supposed to. Sunday afternoon was set as a mtg. time, but I was busy unpacking and doing laundry from my weekend retreat with an old friend. (That's right, I said "retreat!"-well, it was more like twenty-four hours, what's in a name?) Anyway, Will was sitting on the couch waitin' for us all to take our places. He got a little impatient and started without us...
Will: well, let's get this meeting started
Will: first, let's discuss bedtimes!
Will: i think we should have new bedtimes
Will: i agree, i think midnight would be good
Will: all in favor of midnight say I
Will: I
Will: okay. next. how about dessert for dinner?
He honestly didn't think we were listening. He's such a hoot! I think it's that middle child thing.:0
Later!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

i love fall. love. love. love. love it!
let me count the ways...
1. cool mornings...taking the kids to school with in my pj's and fuzzy socks.
2. the air...clean crisp air
3. the light...i love the way the sun hits in fall. i love the shadows.
4. warm afternoons that have you shedding your sweater from earlier in the day
5. bike rides with the whole fam
6. watching the first few yellow leaves falling against an otherwise green background
7. pumpkins and mums (who doesn't like pumpkins and mums?)
8. pumpkin patches and corn mazes
9. apple cider and potato soup and burgoooooooodness (it's a kentucky thing)
10. hayrides
11. festivals (why do you think they're are so many in fall? because it's bomb I tell ya'!
12. the colors (i must say, i look good in fall colors-these legs are way too white for summer)
13. candles (the fall scents are the best)
14. open windows
15. bon fires (s'mores)
i could go on and on and on, but I think this quote says it all,"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."-by some unknown person
I don't know for sure, but I think Heaven is gonna be in perpetual fall mode. And that it will smell like pine-sol. :O (what? embrace our differences!)
p.s. we got to spend some time with some of our best friends in the world this weekend (that's their kids in the pics...scrumptious Kaytlan, Anna, and Austin)

booger eater
What an unusual Sunday afternoon! Maddie went to a friend's house after church and Wes went with Laney to the pumpkin patch. So, we had just will after church today. (the above are just a few of the Will faces as he watches the Colts with Daddy.) Anyway, today, Will and I had a nice conversation in a really quit car.
me: will, you're so cute.
w: what do you think is so cute? my dimples?
me: yep, your dimples, your eyes, your skin, your nose, your ears...
w: everything?
me: yep, except your boogers, i don't like boogers
w: me either, not a big fan of boogers
me: really?
w: not a big fan, okay, maybe sometimes i eat them, but definitely not a fan
(laughter, laughter, laughter)
w: did God make boogers?

Can't make this crap up...
Last night, after the boys were in bed, but Mad was still awake (grading papers-oh my little teacher), we heard Will screamin' and cryin'. We ran upstairs and his eyes were full of tears and fright. Come to find out, he had been putting magnetics in his mouth while he was playing with them and one of the balls got lodged in the back of his throat. He's okay, but we had to throw all those things away, explain to him that he is not two and take him to the doctor today.
So, after I had gone to pick him up and was on my way back home, I had to turn around and go get Maddie. Seems she was at lunch and someone poked her in the eye with a utensil and they thought her cornea was scratched. Gotta go to the doctor. I guess we could look at it as perfect timing, but Scottie and I both had to do a lot of driving. Their school and our doc is about 35 minutes away from each other. Therefor, I started thinking...I wish I could fly! I have always said that that would be my super power of choice, but there are a lot to choose from... transport anywhere in the matter of seconds, wall crawling, grow a money tree, eat and eat and never gain weight, be invisible, superhuman intelligence (boring), accomplish chores with a wiggle of your nose, and of course breathe under water. I'm not sure, I think I'll stick with flying. decisions, decisions...
